SOUTH INDIA, Chola style, 20th century Important bronze statue of a Hindu female deity, probably Parvati, standing in tribhanga on a lotus flower base. The richly jeweled body, elaborate hairstyle and circular nimbus at the back recall the aesthetic canons of Chola art. Solid lost-wax casting, as suggested by the underside of the base. Modern work in the taste of medieval bronzes from Tamil Nadu. Beautiful dark brown patina, slight wear. Height: 71.5 cm Expert : Jean Gauchet
