Charles Pécrus was a versatile painter, excelling in seascapes, landscapes and genre scenes. It was in the latter style that he met with particular success, culminating in the sale of one of his paintings to Emperor Napoleon III in 1865. A friend of many painters such as Diaz de la Peña, Boudin and Stevens, he moved towards Impressionism.
