Atmospheric watercolor signed by artist Albert Birg, dated 1897. Entitled Horizon, the work captures a moment of calm at sunset on a sea of oil. Two figures in a rowboat are depicted rowing, while a distant sailboat and a few maritime silhouettes accentuate the depth of the landscape. The delicate palette blends pastel tones and orange hues, aptly conveying the diffused light of late afternoon. A masterful, poetic composition, typical of the Nordic naturalist sensibility of the late 19th century.
