Jernberg Dimensions: 30.5 x 39.5 cm (with frame, 46.5 x 56 cm) Charming watercolor genre scene by Swedish artist August Jernberg (1826-1896). The work depicts a rustic interior with two women busy with domestic chores, in a warm, realistic atmosphere. The composition reveals great attention to detail: kitchen utensils, a roaring fire, exposed beams and vegetables on the floor testify to a keen observation of everyday rural life. This work is in the tradition of 19th-century Scandinavian naturalism, and is similar to a motif in the collections of Stockholm's Nationalmuseum (Cottage or Kitchen Interior, inv. NMH 7/19229).
