Joan MIRO (1893-1983) *LOT LOCATED IN SWITZERLAND: 5.5% IMPORT TAX INCL. VAT IN ADDITION TO BUYER'S TAX Rockets 1 1959 Prints and multiples Etching 32.5 × 50.5 cm (12 4/5 × 19 9/10 in.) Hand-signed by the artist Private collection, Switzerland Joan Miró (1893-1983) was a Catalan painter, sculptor and printmaker whose profoundly inventive visual language made him one of the major figures of XXᵉ century art. His work blends abstraction and poetic symbolism, nourished by his Catalan heritage, observation of the natural world and exploration of the unconscious. Composed of floating organic forms, bright primary colors and imagery both playful and enigmatic, Miró's art oscillates between childlike wonder and profound philosophical reflection. Born in Barcelona, he studied at the city's art academies before moving to Paris in the early 1920s, where he discovered Surrealism, Dadaism and Cubism. His career was built in constant dialogue with these avant-garde movements, although he always refused to be categorized. For several decades, he explored a wide variety of media - painting, drawing, ceramics, tapestry, monumental sculpture - constantly innovating in his quest for new forms of expression. His work has been the subject of major exhibitions around the world, establishing his status as a key figure of modernism: - Museum of Modern Art, New York - Joan Miró (1941), his first major retrospective in the United States. - Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona - founded in 1975 and dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of his work. - Center Pompidou, Paris - Joan Miró (2018), a major retrospective of his entire career. - Guggenheim Museum Bilbao - Joan Miró: Absolute Reality. Paris, 1920-1945 (2023). - Tate Modern, London - Joan Miró: The Escape Ladder (2011). Today, Miró is recognized as one of the pioneers of modern abstraction. His influence extends to generations of painters, sculptors and contemporary artists. His ability to combine formal simplicity and symbolic depth continues to fuel interpretations of his visionary universe. THIS LOT IS LOCATED IN SWITZERLAND.
