Goichi KITAGAWA (1947-) - Lot 38
Goichi KITAGAWA (1947-) Symmetrical composition Mixed media on Japanese paper, dated 73 and monogrammed, stamped lower right. 47 x 62 cm Mottling on the upper right, small stains, small folds. Goichi Kitagawa was born in Japan in 1947. Trained as a sculptor and architect in Japan, Goichi Kitagawa also worked in the West, notably in Europe. Very active in the 60s and 70s, he had several solo exhibitions in Tokyo, Ogaki and Yokohama, as well as in Paris and Germany. His work is perfectly in line with the Gutai aesthetic, an important movement in post-war contemporary art in Japan. From the "concreteness" advocated by Gutai, Kitagawa brings an architectural dimension to his works, whether sculpted, painted or drawn. His highly poetic conception of form and volume unfolds an almost fantastical universe. In Europe, three major monumental works can be seen: "Vivre Ensemble" in Vilnius, Lithuania, "La Lune s'abîme dans une mer agitée", in Evora, Portugal, and "La Pleine Lune émerge de la mer agitée", in Perros-Guirrec, France.
